Portraits and voices

of extraordinary
women and trees
from around the world

Women and Trees is an environmental art project — a collection of portraits and voices of women from around the world, working to regenerate the Earth and our relationship with her — inviting us to remember ourselves as nature.
The project wishes to raise ecological awareness, highlight the importance of female approaches to restoring our connection to nature, and the vital role of trees and forests in our lives.

This collection of portraits captures female changemakers, activists, earth defenders, writers, teachers, artists, poets, musicians, dancers, land stewards, midwives, healers, and keepers of ancestral traditions. Each woman uniquely contributes to restoring the Earth and revitalising our bond with the natural world. These women embody ways of relating to the living world, that recognise our ‘Interbeingness’ and the Earth as a sentient being.

Trees stand as guardians of the Earth, nurturing life, offering shelter, teaching us resilience, and reminding us that all life is connected at the root. Similarly, women are sustainers of life on Earth in so many ways. Women are the roots of communities, nurturing families, and often at the forefront of environmental action and advocacy in their communities.

The project presents images and auditory recordings that attest to the emergence of a global movement of women standing for the Earth and contributing to a positive paradigm shift.
Women and Trees is a celebration of the feminine spirit and the spirit of trees.

“Giving back to nature is not altruism, it’s deep respect for the way the world works. For the connection between us. Of life flowing into life.”
